Death

Mr. Herman Lemuel Furr, Sr., age 77 of Charlotte, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 13, 2003. The family will receive friends and family at McEwen Funeral Home, 727 E. Morehead St. in Charlotte from 7 to 8:30 PM on Monday, February 17. Graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 18. Mr. Furr's friend and pastor, Dr. Charles Foushee, will officiate. Herman served in the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to serving his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He later attended Presbyterian Junior College where he played football. He was associated with Fredrickson Motor Express for 27 years. He later founded Dublin Realty Co. and served as its President and General Manager for 25 years. He built the business with the help of his loyal and faithful associate, Norbert J. Tadych II. During the 60's he was very active in coaching youth sports in the Enderly Park Little League, Thomasboro PONY League, Charlotte Central Lions Babe Ruth League, and Red Shield COLT League. Mr. Furr was the son of the late Lemuel R. Furr, Sr. and Isabelle Johnson Furr. He is predeceased by his wife Olema Nanney Furr. He is survived by his three loving children and their spouses, Betty F. Stone and husband Richard, Herman L. Furr, Jr. (Buddy) and wife Cheryl of Charlotte, and Joseph C. Furr and wife Sandra of Weddington; his six grandchildren Heather F. Kinsland of Franklin, NC, Jason Stone of Denver, NC, Daniel Furr of Weddington, Erika Wishnefsky and Erin and Evan Furr of Charlotte, and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Furr is also survived by his sisters Faye F. Williams of Indian Trail and Nancie F. Wilson of Charlotte and brother Jimmy J. Furr of Mt. Holly. He is predeceased by his sisters Margaret F. Smith, Jean F. Vallandingham, Charlotte F. Darbey, and brothers Lemuel R. Furr, Jr. and Bobby V. Furr. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be sent to Hospice at Charlotte or the charity of your choice. McEwen Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
