Death
Thomasville — Funeral services for Pvt. Kenneth H. Furr, 20, a son of Dock and Mary Beck Furr of Thomasville, Route 2, who was killed in Normandy, France, on Aug. 14, 1944, will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Pilgrim Holiness Church with interment in the church cemetery. In charge of the service will be the Rev. T. R. York of the Mt. Zion Church. Graveside military rites will be in charge of William C. Miller Post No. 2,756, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Pvt. Furr lost his life in battle shortly after arriving in France. He was in the infantry and a member of the 66th Division. He enlisted in the service in 1943 at Fort Bragg and after training at Camp Blanding, Fla., Camp Rucker, Ala., and Camp Robertson, Ark., departed for overseas duty from Ft. Meade, Md. Pvt. Furr received the Purple Heart as well as other citations of honor. He was born near Thomasville and was married to the former Vivian Sowers of Davidson County. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one son, Kenneth Marion Furr and one sister, Elizabeth Furr, all of the home, and one brother, W. G. Furr, Maplesville, Ala.The News and Observer, Raleigh, North Carolina, September 14, 1948
