MIDLAND Marie Elizabeth Furr Thompson, 88, formerly of Stanfield, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, in Autumn Care of Shallotte. Mrs. Thompson was born March 23, 1924, in Stanly County, to the late Willie Shuford Furr and Naomi "Oma" Elizabeth Sossamon Furr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. Thompson June 24, 2007. The Thompsons lived in Stanfield for many years before moving to Shallotte. Mrs. Thompson worked in quality control at Blaine Hosiery at Locust and was a Sunday school teacher. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today (Friday, Dec. 21), with a 30 minute state prior to the service, at First Baptist Church in Locust. The Revs. Kenny Wallace and Tommy Ross will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her son, Kenneth "Ken" Thompson, of Supply; and her sister, Willie Chadwick of Ocala, Fla. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Thompson family.
