Death
Aubrey Mack Furr, 87, of Magnolia, died May 21 2006, a Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb until services there at 9 a.m. The Rev. James Lawrence and the Rey Lou Knighton of Magnolia United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sweet Water Cemetery in Sweet Water, Ala. Mr. Furr was born Oct. 26, 1918, in Tanner Williams, Ala. He was the son of the late Mack Justice Furr and the late Bertie Bolen Furr. After graduating from Tanner Williams high School, Mr. Furr enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served three years in peace time and was a seaman first class. During World War II, he was drafted to serve two and a half years in the Coast Guard, a total of five and a half years. He attended the U.S. Cost Guard Academy in New London, Conn., for sonar training. After training, he was assigned to the USS Joyce, a destroyer that escorted ships to and from Europe and later to the Pacific Theater. After the war, Mr. Furr attend the University of Alabama officers school and served on guard force at Broolkley Air Force base in Mobile, Ala., as lieutenant. Later, he moved to Houma, La., and worked 28 years for Pennzoil Company. He retired as production superintendent in 1980. Before retiring, he was a member of Houma United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the official board. He was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church in Magnolia. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lottie Fay Boozer Furr; three children, Evelyn G. Furr of Abilene, Texas, Dr. Loraine Furr Lambert and husband Kenneth, and David Mack Furr and wife Patsy of Ridgeland; two sisters, Catherine Furr Cancienne of Houma and Margie Furr Bolton and husband Billy of Wilmer, Ala: five grandchildren, Melanie and Aubrey Kemp Furr, Heather and David Lambert and Jennifer Allen; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Elora Allen.
