Death
Katherine Furr Stringer Cancienne, a long-time resident of Houma and resident of Houston, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Houma, with sharing of wonderful memories following the service in the church fellowship hall. She is survived by two children, Martha and husband, Jim Hebert, and Mark and wife, Susan Stringer; one stepson, L. Milton Cancienne and wife, Cheryl; one stepdaughter, Ann Gentry; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Stringer and Lawrence Cancienne; one daughter, Ann Stringer Parish; her parents; and two siblings. She was a retired teacher in Terrebonne Parish. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Women, c/o First United Methodist Church, 6109 La. 311, Houma, LA 70360, or the Terrebonne Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship Fund, 1450 St. Charles St., Houma, LA 70360-3935. Claire Brothers Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.Burial
She is also on her first husband's stone in the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilmer, Mobile County, Alabama.Endnotes
