Death
Graveside services for Walter Rankin Barksdale are on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Beck Funeral Home is in charge of services Mr. Barksdale, 90, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas following a brief illness. He was a very caring father and leaves behind his sons William, Walter Jr., Wayne and Wayde; his daughter Wendy; and their spouses. His five children provided him with ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Walter served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in Europe. After returning to Brookhaven, he married Margaret Lynell Young. They attended the University of Alabama where he received his Bachelor of Science in geology. Walter had a long career in the oil and gas industry, and he enjoyed the overseas travel that it provided. He visited Europe, Africa and Australia. Walter was a loving husband, caring father and was always quick to smile. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.The Daily Reader, April 16, 2015
