Death
Services for Martha Lou Ard Brister, of Jayess, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Jayess with burial in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Bowling will officiate. Catchings Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is Tuesday at the church beginning at 4 p.m. and will continue all evening until the time of the service on Wednesday. Mrs. Brister, 68, died Oct. 28, 2007, at her residence. She was born in Lincoln County on Oct. 16, 1939, to Charlie F. Ard and Gussie Mae Furr Ard. She was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church. Her family stated that she was a dedicated wife of 50 years, mother of six children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A kind and gentle woman whose smile lit up the world, she was an accomplished homemaker, and made everyone feel welcome. She was talented in the crafts of crochet and cooking, taking great pleasure in both. She completed a collection of recipes from family and friends called "The Cookbook Granny Made," which also demonstrated her love of family and displayed her interest in documenting her family's heritage through food and photographs. She lived a full life with her husband, Willie Paul, filled with adventure, laughter and love. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. We may take comfort in knowing the world is a better place because she lived. Preceding her in death were her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Brister; her son, Rocky Dewayne Brister; one grandson, Jeramie Brister; and one daughter-in-law, Kip Brister.
