Marker reads: "This building was built about 1891 by J.M. Briscoe, used as grocery store was located on the Springcreek Road in what is known as Old Olney. After the depot was built to the north of Olney, merchants began moving to this section. Extensive remodeling belies the years of the structure, and the attic is the only part that will reveal the original structure. Sam J. Furr Company located at 113 S. Ave. C., Olney."

Death
OLNEY, Tex. (Special) -- Services for Sam Furr Sr., 73, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Lunn Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Erwin Reed, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Olney, officiating. Burial will be in the Olney Cemetery. Furr died Monday night in a Olney hospital after years of ill health. He was born in Hill County, June 4, 1891 and lived in Young county for 61 years. Furr was a merchant at True and Weatherford, Tex. and a rancher at Padgitt, Tex. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow; a son, Sam of Olney; two grandchildren; and two great-grand- children.Times Record News, Wichita Falls, Texas, October 6, 1964
