Death
NEWTON — Bobby Kimery Furr, 74, of South Brady Avenue, died May 15, 1998, at his residence. Born Dec, 4, 1923, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Marshall Bryan and Mabel Rowland Furr Sr. A member of First Baptist Church in Newton, he served as a postal clerk in the Newton Post Office for 36 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II he was a member of American Legion Post 16 in Newton and the Hickory Chapter of the DAV. Survivors include a son, Mark Furr of Newton; a daughter, Kim Webster of San Diego, Calif; a brother, M.B. Furr Jr. of Newton: a sister, Betty Furr Hunsucker of Maiden; two grandchildren, Sean Webster and Andrew Webster; and a friend, Coline Hedrick of Claremont. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. David Gary and Fred Thompson at 11 a.m. Monday at his church. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites by the American Legion Post 16. The family will be at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. today.
