Death
NEWTON -- Mr. Furr, 84, of Hamilton Drive, Newton, NC died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Carrillon Assisted Living. Born January 15, 1922 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Marshall Bryan, Sr. and Mable Rowland Furr. He was a former bookkeeper and office manager for Maiden Knitting for 17 years and had retired as owner operator of Furr's Men's Store in Maiden. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton and a member of American Legion Post 16 for 59 years. He had served in the US Army 460th Engineer Depot Company and served his country in World War II. He had a passion for the study of family genealogy and was a member of the Stanley County Genealogic Society. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Bobby K. Furr. Survivors include two sons, Richard Bryan Furr and wife, Celeste, of Marietta, GA, and Marshall Keith Furr of Townville, SC; and sister, Betty Furr Hunsucker of Maiden, NC. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Newton. Revs. David Gary and Fred Thompson will officiate, and burial will be at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, prior to the service from 12:45 to 1:45 PM at the church. Military graveside rites will be performed by American Legion Post 16. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 501 Northwest Blvd, Newton, NC 28658.
