Death
CONCORD - Homer Lee Harwood, 78, of 5185 Grand Canyon Drive, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at NorthEast Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Concord with the Rev. E.A. Smith and the Rev. Chris Hawks officiating. Burial will be at Miami Baptist Church Cemetery, Concord. Graveside military rites will be performed by the DAV Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Harwood was born June 11, 1929, in Cabarrus County the son of the late James Franklin Harwood and the late Effie (Furr) Harwood. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed by Barnhill Construction, Tarboro, as a heavy equipment operator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd David Harwood. Survivors include sisters, Thelma H. Kiser of Kannapolis and Laura Ellen "Pat" Mueller of Clemmons; friend, Mary McLester of Concord; five nieces and three nephews; a great niece; and special friend, Brenda Auten. The family meeting place will be 4182 Heathcliff Road, Concord, where he had made his home for more than 13 years with Mary McLester.
