Edwin Robert CALES

Edwin Robert Cales, age 78, of Hamilton, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 27, 1997 at 6:56 P.M. at Ft. Hamilton Hughes Hospital.
He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on July 19, 1919, the son of Floyd Levi and Lillian (Reis) Cales. Ed was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church; Hugh Bates Masonic Lodge #868; and the Monkey Mutual Aid Society. Ed was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps, where he rose to the rank of Captain. He served in the European Theater where he was awarded 3 Bronze Stars and a Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a devoted family man and a fierce believer in the United States of America. He was employed by the State of Ohio, retiring in 1980. On July 3, 1947, in Hamilton, he married Dorothy J. Hornsby.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Cales of Hamilton; a devoted daughter, Catherine of Hamilton and a son, Kevin Cales of Hudson, Colorado; one granddaughter, Jacque; three grandsons, Edwin, Steven and Casey; several great grandchildren; a devoted brother-in-law Al Browning, of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Seven Mile; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ronald and Shirley Eversole of Hamilton; his aunt Mary (Reis) McQuesten; cousins, Marylin and Lewis Ackley of Cincinnati; Joe and Mary McQuesten of Cincinnati; Mary Margaret and James Parks of Steubenville, Ohio; Lois and Jim Euton, of Portsmouth; many neices and nephews especially Kim and Terrall Putnam, Jan Wilkey, David and Jeanne Browning and Mike Osborne; and several great neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lillian Cales; three brothers, Eugene, Donald, and Floyd "Snitz"; and several aunts and uncles. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him especially his little buddy, Rudy, who brought him much joy in his last days. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Fort Hamilton Hospital who were so kind to him and his family, to Dr. Gregory Savage, Dr. Kenneth Wehr, Dr. Richard Sternberg, Dr. Deborah Hauger and Dr. Gregory Parker; also Mercy Home Healthcare Services.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 31, at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 224 Dayton St. with Father Jeff Silver officiating. Burial to follow at Butler county Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00p.m. Wednesday at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave.
