Death
Mr. Gene F. Wilson, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Sarasota, Florida. Mr. Wilson was born in Kannapolis, NC on January 27, 1930, the son of the late Floyd H. Wilson, Sr. and Flossie Furr Wilson. Mr. Wilson graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1948 and then worked for Cannon Mills Textiles in Kannapolis, NC. Mr. Wilson married Martha Jerlean 'Jeri' Hinson in Kannapolis on November 5, 1950. Pursuing new career opportunities, the family relocated to Orlando, FL in 1960 and then in 1969 to Sarasota, FL, where Mr. Wilson became co-owner of Area Office Machines, Inc. where he worked until his retirement. Mr. Wilson, known as an avid bass fisherman, was also a world traveler and enjoyed ballroom dancing. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Jerlean 'Jeri' Wilson on May 17, 1998. Mr. Wilson is survived by and will be greatly missed by his family including; daughters: Martha Wilson Stevens and Melinda Wilson; son, David Floyd Wilson, all of Sarasota, FL; granddaughter, Alicia Diane Stevens, Chicago, IL; grandson, Geoffrey Ryan Mitchell, Beeville, TX; brother, Floyd H. Wilson, Jr. (Bobbie) of Raleigh, NC; sister, Carol Eller (Joe) of North Wilkesboro, NC; and longtime friend and companion, Grace Jackman of Sarasota, FL. Services will be private. The family will receive visitors at the family home on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In his memory, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL, 34238 as an expression of our appreciation for the compassionate care they provided to our dad and family.Published in Herald Tribune from Oct. 21 to Oct. 22, 2014
