Death

Jerry Dale Furr, 77, passed away Sunday, November 29. 2020 at Atrium Hospital, Pineville, following complications from surgery. Born May 24, 1943 in Charlotte, he was the son of the late Conrad Furr and Faye Edward Green. Following high school, Jerry served in the US Air Force for 4 years, stationed in the UK. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to Charlotte and worked along side his father and brothers at Furr’s Nursery where he developed a life-long love of plants and landscape design. Jerry is survived by his stepmother, Susanne Furr, his sister, Helen Polito, (Tom) brothers Patrick (Tanya) and Michael Furr and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his long time friend and companion, Carolyn Lundin and her children and grandchildren, whom he “adopted” as his own. After retiring from the nursery business Jerry spent several years volunteering as Santa for Assistance League of Charlotte, and as a professional Santa in various malls in the area. Jerry loved people and believed that “strangers were just friends he hadn’t met yet.” Dog cookies were ever present and provided an easy introduction to dogs and their people. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, memorial services will be postponed.
