Death
BENTON, LA - Funeral services for Tommye Frances Furr Thomas, age 73, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel. Interment will be at Hand Cemetery, Coushatta, LA at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday. Tommye passed away June 14, 2011. She was born December 21, 1937 to Thomas Francis Furr and Peggy Hand Furr in Shreveport, LA and lived most of her life in the Shreveport/Bossier area. She graduated from Fair Park High School and Louisiana Tech with honors. She was a retired executive secretary with SWEPCO, a northwest Louisiana realtor, watercolor artist-publishing "Pickin' Time" a limited edition print depicting the Old South, a member and Trustee of Cypress Baptist Church, Benton, LA, past president of Women of the Church at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Republican Women of Bossier, past member of the Quota Club of Bossier, a member of the Cypress Area Garden Club and the Bossier Restoration Foundation. Tommye had a love of God's creation of nature. She loved gardening and sharing her flowers with others, antiques and spending time with family. She did so much for others and NEVER wanted recognition. Tommye is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, T. Edwards and son, Mark Alan Wilson. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 27 years, Charles E. Thomas of Benton; son, John Todd Wilson and wife Rachel of Rocky Mount; brother, Terry Edwards and wife Judy of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, two nephews, a great nephew, a great niece, several cousins and also Charles' daughter, Tammy Randall and husband William of Keithville and sons, Todd Thomas of Houston and Tracy Thomas and wife Rachel of Keithville. Honoring Tommye as pallbearers will be Larry Richardson, Raymond "Buck" Sowell, Hershel Burcham, Harvey Ramsey, Bill Edwards and Justin Edwards. Memorials may be made to the Shreveport Rescue Mission or the charity of donor's choice. "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever."
