Death
Mr. Charles Ellis Thomas, 76, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011 after a brief illness. Services celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 10:00 am in the Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with interment immediately following at Hand Cemetery in Coushatta, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Tommy Patton, Senior Adult Pastor of Cypress Baptist Church, Benton, LA where Mr. Thomas was a member. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the funeral home on Monday, October 10, 2011. Charles was born in Shreveport on October 15, 1934 where he resided until 1996 when he moved to Benton, LA. He was a proud member of the 1952 graduate class of Fair Park High School. After attending Louisiana Tech University and serving his country in the United States Army for four years, he began his career with the Louisiana Department of Transportation, retiring in the late 1980's, after which he was employed with the City of Sheveport. Mr. Thomas enjoyed traveling, bass fishing, and visiting with old friends. The love of his life was fast pitch softball and he played on many teams in the 60s and 70s. He was especially proud that his team won the 1968 Fast Pitch City Championship title. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Nobie Thomas of Center, TX. He is survived by his three children from a previous marriage, Tammy T. Randall and her husband J.W. Randall, Jr, Todd S. Thomas, and Tracy E. Thomas and his wife Rachel R. Thomas, and his three grandchildren, Haley Randall Rath, Lindsey Randall, and Blade Thomas. He was also predeceased in death by his wife,Tommye Furr Wilson Thomas whose survivors include Todd and Rachel Wilson and their children, Joshua, Jordan, and Jenni Wilson, and Justin Baker. During his life, Charles E. Thomas was a faithful church member, having attended Emmanual Baptist Church in Shreveport and Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, LA. Pallbearers will be J.K. Richard, Buck Sowell, Ruben Morris, Bill Edwards, Justin Edwards, and Larry Richardson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cypress Baptist Church or the charity of their choice.Published in Shreveport Times on October 10, 2011
