Death

PONTOTOC - Leroy Jones, 84, of the Longview community, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Mattson to Lloyd Elford Jones Sr. and Ethel Lucile Furr Jones. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police, stationed at Beaverton Ammo Station in Portland, Ore., during World War II. He farmed during his early adulthood. He retired from Roadway Express after 28 years as a truck driver. He was a member of Longview Baptist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Longview Baptist Church with Bro. Tony Morrow and Bro. Caleb Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Willa Deen Jones of Longview; daughter, Betty Smith (Mark) of Pontotoc; sons, Calvin Jones (Shirley) of Anniston, Ala., James Jones of Starkville, Billy Ray Jones (Lavenda) of Spokane, Wash., and Gary Jones (Gina) of Helena, Ala.; grandchildren, Leanne Mash (James), Kathy Willard (Stephen) and Jonathan Wray (Mendy), all of Pontotoc, Amanda Mitchell (Mitch) of Nottingham, Md., Kristopher Jones (Meagan) of Bethesda, Md., Sarah Jones of San Pedro, Honduras, Benjamin Jones of Mathews, N.C., Brad Jones (Heather) of Olympia, Wash., Candace Wood (Caleb) of Chouteau, Okla., Michael Jones, Nathan Jones and John Jones, all of Helena, Ala.; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; special cousins, Buster and Earline Brooks of Tupelo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd Elford Jr.; and a son, Darrel Wayne Jones. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
