Marriage
Charles Bruce Furr, of Union county, N. C, and Miss Helen L. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murray W. Smith, or 449 Race street, were married at Lewisburg on Wednesday September 24, by the Rev. C. H. Rose, pastor of Christ Lutheran church. The ceremony was quietly performed at the parsonage. An announcement of the happy event was not made until Saturday. Mr. Furr is now employed by the Pennsylvania railroad company here, and will make Sunbury his permanent residence. His bride was graduated from the Sunbury High School two years ago, and for several months past has been employed as a stenographer in the law office of Knight and Taggart. Friends of the young couple are extending heartiest congratulations. (Mr. Furr is a son of Esq. and Mrs. H. M. Furr of Goose Creek township, and is a well-known and highly thought of young man. He was discharged from the navy only a few mouths ago, and it was while in the service that he became acquainted with his bride. They have the best wishes of hundreds of Union county friends of Mr. Furr.Death
SUNBURY — Mrs. Helen L. Furr, 85, of 325 Race St., died Sunday night in Sunbury Community Hospital, where she was taken after being stricken in her home. Born Aug. 24, 1900, in Selinsgrove, she was a daughter of the late Murray W. and Sara Ethel (Lumbard) Smith. She was a 1918 graduate of Sunbury High School. Mrs. Furr was employed in the law office of John Bassler and by the Pennsylvania Railroad, and was last employed by The Daily Item for 25 years as a church and social reporter, retiring in 1967. Her husband, Charles Bruce Furr, died in 1961. Mrs. Furr is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jeanne Teisher of Sunbury and Mrs. Suzanne Adelson of Encino, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Lois Baldanza of Rangeley, Maine; a brother, Richard W. Smith Sr. of Martinsville, Ind.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Zweier Funeral Home, Sunbury, by the Rev. John G. Conz. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The Daily Item, Sunbury, Pennsylvania, June 9, 1986
