Death

Donald Ray Hatley, 74, of New London, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at his home. Don was born January 1, 1950 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina to the late Floyd David Hatley and the late Gladys Virginia Furr Hatley. He was also preceded in death by sister, Rachel Hatley. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Jerry Mabry. Burial will immediately follow at the New London Cemetery at 331 Spring Street, New London. Survivors include wife of 46 years, Marie Hinson Hatley of the home; children, Renee Austin (Robin) of Albemarle, NC, Kim Eudy (Dale) of New London, NC, and Crystal Cheatham of Richfield, NC; grandchildren, Garrett Austin, John Austin, Christian Rush, and Kale Simpson; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dwight Hatley (Alice) of Midland, NC; nephew, Rodney Hatley (Amy) of Locust, NC; niece, Shellie Torelli (Jimmy) of Locust, NC; great-niece, Audrey Torelli; great-nephew, Eli Torelli; and his loving cat, Sammie. Don had the best sense of humor and the most infectious laugh. He collected Dale Earnhardt memorabilia and loved animals - he often contributed to the Humane Society. Most of all Don loved his family. He will be dearly missed and will always be loved. Memorials may be made to the Stanly County Humane Society. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Hatley family.
