Death
Floyd David “Tom” Hatley 88, of 12449 Mission Church Road, Locust, died at 10:03 a.m, Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in Stanly Regional Medical Center.His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday with a 30-minute state in Mission Baptist Church in Locust, where he was a member. Dr. Ronald Russell will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by Albemarle-Stanly County DAV Chapter12..Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late John Freeland and Lula Crayton Hatley and was a cloth room handler for Cannon Mills in Concord. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II.His wife, Gladys Virginia Furr Hatley, died in 2006. Four brothers, Marvin, HD, Flave and Horace Hatley, also preceded him in death.The family was to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. At other times they will met at his home.He is survived by sons, Dwight Hatley and wife Alice of Midland and Donald Hatley and wife Marie of New London; brother, Ralph Hatley of Locust and sister, Doris Huneycutt of Locust.He is also survived by grandchildren, Rodney Hatley and fiance Amy Rorie of Stanfield and Shellie Hatley Torelli and husband Jimmy of Midland; step-grandchildren, Renee Austin of Richfield, Crystal Cheatham of Richfield and Kim Simpson of New London; step-great grandchildren Garrett Austin of Richfield, John Austin of Richfield, Christian Taylor of Richfield and Kale Simpson of New London and step-great great grandchildren, Levi Austin of Richfield, Chastity Overcash of Richfield, Harmony Overcash of Richfield and Dalton Overcash of Richfield.
