Death
Monroe, N.C. James Mack Tucker, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003. Born Jan. 24, 1914, in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Henry Duncan and Lessie Lee Furr Tucker. He was married to Estelle Collins Tucker for 66 years. He worked in bridge construction for the state, textiles, carpentry and the lumber business and farming. He was an active member and deacon in Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Rutha Mae Marshburn and her husband, Roger, of Monroe, Maxine Phillips and her husband, John, of Fairfax, Va., Doris Walters and her husband, Don, of Lancaster, Joyce Renfroe and her husband, Steve, of Monroe, and Nancy Helms and her husband, Joe, of Monroe; a brother, Johnny Tucker of Monroe; five sisters, Jane Byrum of Indian Trail, Mandy Bigham of Waxhaw, N.C., Daisy Hill of Monroe, Hannah Furr of Baltimore, Md., and Louise Rushing of Monroe; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Tucker; and two sisters, Sarah Hargett and Ellen Tucker. Services were held Monday at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.Endnotes
