Death
DAVIDSON - Laurine Henkel Furr Snouse, 98, of The Pines in Davidson, died Friday, December 11, 2015, at her residence. She was born June 28, 1917, in Iredell County to the late George Fredrick Henkel and Geneva White Henkel. Laurine loved living in Statesville where she reared her family. She was an active member of Broad Street United Methodist Church prior to moving to The Pines in 2007. She worked for J.C. Penny and then later for Balfour Company. Laurine was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and was named Woman of the Year while a member of BP&W. She was a bridge Life Master and enjoyed an occasional round of golf. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Price Furr, a son, Thomas Henkel Furr, and her second husband, Walter Snouse. Brothers and sisters who predeceased her include Fred Henkel, Henry Henkel, Paul Henkel, Helen Henkel, Catherine Henkel, Sarah Sherrill, and Hilda Sing. She is survived by a son, Bill Furr (Emily) of Vero Beach, FL; a grandson, Tom Furr (Erin) of Durham, NC; granddaughters, Elizabeth Hammond (John) of Raleigh, NC and Laura Sanchez (Paul) of Charlotte, NC as well as seven great- grandchildren, all of whom loved their "Mimi." She leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews as well as beloved friends Frances Bruce and Hettie Tanner. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 14, 2015, at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at 10:00 AM at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at a reception following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines who were all very caring and loving. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Broad Street UMC, 315 W.
