AIKEN, S.C. - Master Sergeant Leon (Lee) Wilson Furr, Jr. U.S. Army Retired of Aiken died October 7, 2007. He was born to Mary Francis Norris Furr and Leon Wilson Furr in Savannah, Georgia on October 8, 1934. Lee attended Lakeland High School in Lakeland, FL where we swam for their swim team. MSG Furr served in the United States Army from 1956 until July, 1976. MSG Furr was a helicopter crew chief. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal, both with V Devices for Heroism, a second Bronze Star and numerous other medals during his three years of combat service in Vietnam during which time he fought in 11 of the 17 named campaigns. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Nancy Furr, and daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Efird and Christina and Michael McSherry; nine grandchildren, all of Madison, Ga.; his fiancé, Donna Aycock of Aiken, SC; two sisters, Peggy Goodspeed of Augusta, Ga., and Carolyn Floyd of Hampton, Ga.; a brother, Buddy Burch of Jacksonville, Florida and, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Furr.
