Death
Gurlie Faye Helton, 69, of Pinehurst died on Saturday (Oct. 16, 2004) at Carolina House of Pinehurst. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m., at Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank McQuage. Interment is at East Side Cemetery in Rockingham. The family received friends on Monday, Oct. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Marks Funeral Home. Born Oct. 8, 1935, Mrs. Helton was the daughter of the late Carson and Evie Williams. She was a housekeeping supervisor at Britthaven of Hamlet. Her husband, Larry Helton, son, Richard, Eugene Furr, brother, Shelton Williams, and sisters, Ruth Thomas and Martha Smith, preceded her in death. Surviving are her sons, Anthony Lee Furr, Larry Carson Furr and Gregory Matthew Furr, all of West End; daughters, Donna Kaye Reese of Star and Gayla E. Soto of Jackson Springs; sisters, Ellie Tanner, Isabelle Reynolds and Mary Jane Johnson, all of Hamlet, Helen Grant of Cordova, Leona Kellis of Candor and Linda Taylor of Rockingham; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marks Funeral Home of Rockingham is handling the arrangements.Endnotes
