Death

Funeral services for former Chicoan Ralph Monroe Furr, 64, of San Francisco will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hall-Van Hook Funeral Chapel. He died Sunday in a San Mateo hospital. Born Feb, 16, 1908, in Monroe, N.C., he was reared and educated there, moving to Chico in 1946. He moved to the San Francisco area in 1951. Furr was an insurance salesman for Mutual Life and Casualty Co. for 12 years. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. I. F. Plyler of Monroe, N.C.; five sons, Ralph M. in Vietnam, Eugene and Jerome, both of Honolulu, Hawaii; Anthony of Sacramento and Will of Chico; three daughters, Mrs. Anita Casto of Yuba City and Mrs. Iona McCain and Mrs. Iola White, both of Chico; and 16 grandchildren. The Rev. Al Waer of the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God will officiate. Frank Fertig, Bill Stanley, Barbara Nolan and Sue Tiptan will sing “Old Rugged Cross,” “Come to the Water” and ‘Rise Up My Love and Come Away,” accompanied by Mrs. Esther Gibson. Interment will follow at the Chico Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today.
