Death

NEW LONDON — Walter Bruce Furr, 53, of Route 3, died at 1:15 a.m. on Feb. 27, 1989, at Stanly Memorial Hospital after nine months of declining health. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Gaddy and the Rev. Hugh Sims. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Stanly Funeral Home on Tuesday night from 7 to 9 and the remainder of the time at the home of his mother, Mary Harley Furr of Route 3. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Stanly County Unit, P.O. Box 1181, Albemarle, N.C. 28002 or Bethany United Methodist Church, 2409-13 Highway 52 North, Albemarle, N.C. 28001. Born Dec. 14, 1995, in Stanly County, Furr was also a son of the late Pratt Furr. Retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, he was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Mary Jane Hartsell Furr; three sons, Dean Furr of Brevard, David Furr of New London and Douglas Furr of Richfield; two stepsons, Rodney Almond of Monroe and Rick Almond of Norwood; A daughter, Donna Furr Coble of Hendersonville; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Almond of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two brothers, Ben Furr of Cary and Ronald Furr of Stanley; and six grandchildren.
