She was born to Lee and Mary Lecretia (Whatley) Furr on Nov. 1, 1915, in Sabinal, Texas. Mrs. Spear moved to Buchanan Dam in 1975 from Baytown. She married Wayland Floyd Spear on Sept. 4, 1936, in Baytown, and he preceded her in death in 1992. She attended Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas. She was an accomplished seamstress and made swimsuits, wedding dresses, curtains and even a matching raincoat and umbrella. Mrs. Spear was very instrumental in creating the Lakeshore Library, a part of the Llano County Library System. Mr. and Mrs. Spear loved to travel and cruised around the world. She continued to take cruises and parasailed for her 96th birthday. She walked and talked so fast that she was known as the roadrunner in her lakeside neighborhood. Her canine companion Happy led the way as she drove her golf cart through the subdivision, handing out treats to all the dogs. After the death of their only son, Wayland Floyd Spear at the age of 16, Mr. and Mrs. Spear adopted three girls. She is survived by Evelyn Ragsdale, of LaPorte, Mary Hulen of Baytown and Donna Guinn of Kingsland; grandchildren, Shelley Eck and husband Travis of Clear Lake, Lesley Ragsdale, of Seabrook, Donald Hulen of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Christy Aldred and husband Waine of Baytown; great-grandchildren, Arwen Eck, Jonas Eck and Sydney Aldred; and numerous nieces and nephews.
