Death
Jim Tillman Furr 'Jake' MIDLAND -- Mr. Furr, 76, of 4325 Garmon Mill Road, died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at NorthEast Medical Center. Funeral service is 11 AM Saturday, January 3, at First Baptist Church in Midland, with Reverend Tom Gibbs officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The family will be at the home of a son, Ronnie Furr, 160 Kennel Road, Stanfield, NC. Mr. Furr was born in Stanly County on August 12, 1927, a son of the late Dora Frances Furr and the late John Lee Furr. He was married to the late Phyllis Long Furr. Mr. Furr was a retired welder from Fenestra Co. in Harrisburg, NC, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Midland. Survivors include his sons, Ronnie Furr and wife, Vickie, of Stanfield, Allen Furr and wife, Donna, of Monroe, and Richard Furr and wife, Katrina, of Midland; brothers, Benny Furr of Kannapolis, and Doug Furr of Carolina Beach; sisters, Ruth Brooks, Evelyn Hartsell, both of Midland, Carra Spurbeck and Hazel Coale, both of Carolina Beach; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 4720 Garmon Mill Road, Midland, NC. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is in charge.The Charlotte Observer on January 2, 2004
