Death
Carra Furr Spurbeck, 92, of Carolina Beach, died Sunday, December 6, 2009, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Carra was born January 19, 1917, in Stanley County, NC, daughter of the late John Lee Furr and Dora Frances Furr. Her husband, Harold Spurbeck, four brothers, and one sister, preceded her in death. Mrs. Spurbeck was a member of Christian Missionary and Alliance Church of Carolina Beach and sang in the choir there. Carra was a good person, a dedicated Christian, and a Prayer Warrior who loved her family. She was a great cook and loved to crochet. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Nivens (Bobby) of Carolina Beach; granddaughter, Lynn Prusa (Joe); two great-granddaughters, Halyn and Bobbi Prusa; three sisters, Ruth Brooks and Evelyn Hartsell, both of Midland, NC, and Hazel Coale of Carolina Beach; two brothers, Douglas Furr of Carolina Beach, and Benny Furr (Shirley) of Kanapolis, NC; step-son, Roger Spurbeck of Wilmington; step-daughter, Mary Ann Smith of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be 2pm Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Andrews Valley Chapel with Rev. Blaine Taylor, Rev. Steve Hall, and Rev. Andrew Pasedag officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
