An obituary notice for Evan Hinton was republished by Mr. Frederick Long in "The Hinton News" on June 12, 1980. That brief obituary notice may be transcribed as follows: "Mr. Evan Hinton, one of the most exemplary and prominent citizens of Summers Co. died of paralysis at his home near Hinton on Friday April 2, 1897, aged 74 years. Mr. Hinton was appointed Sheriff of Summers County by Judge J. M. McWhorter when the county was first formed, and was elected to succeed himself, serving six years in all. He was a brother of Mr. Peter Hinton and Mrs. Robert Skaggs of this county. Deceased was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for many years."
