Death

Robert C Skaggs, Esq., one of the best and most well known citizens of Monroe, died at his home in Wolf Creek district, at 4 o'clock on Sunday morning last, June 4th, 1893, aged 72 years, 11 months and 1 day. He had been in feeble health for sometime, his final sickness dating back to the month of March last. Mr Skaggs was a valuable man. He had served his county in several public capacities and always efficiently. He was a faithful member of the Baptist church having connected himself therewith when about 18 years of age. He was a man of genial temper and thorough kindliness. Honored and esteemed by all who knew him, he was at last gathered by the Reaper Death like a sheaf of ripened wheat in the season. his remains were interred in the cemetery of the Forest Hill Methodist church, Summers county, (where several members of his family are buried) on Monday last in the presence of a large number of sorrowing friends. Mr Skaggs was one of the oldest Masons in the county and was buried with the honors of that Order. From labor he has at last been called to (refreshment)..
