Death
Paul F. Furr, 52, former Bartow High School principal, died suddenly at Bartow Memorial Hospital Monday night, 15 minutes after entering the hospital. He had driven himself to the hospital from his house at Lake Buffum, and collapsed after ringing the bell at the emergency room entrance.BARTOW (By Staff Writer) — Funeral services for Paul F. Furr Jr., supervising principal of Frostproof area schools who died Monday night, will be at 3 p.m. today at the First Methodist Church here. Interment will be Thursday at 3 pm. in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Fairfield. Mr. Furr, 52, began with the Polk County school system in 1945 when he moved from Marion County to become principal of Bartow High School. His career in education began in Marion County in 1939 as a teacher and coach. Mr. Furr left Bartow in 1959 to take the Frostproof area supervisor position. The Monroe, N.C. native moved to Lake Buffum also in 1959. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Bartow, the Frostproof Rotary Club and a director of the Polk County Cancer Society. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Furr; four brothers, Clayton Furr and Howard L. Furr, of Ocala, William D. Furr of Dade City, George H. Furr of Sarasota; two sisters, Mrs. John Link of Ocala and Mrs. Cliff Searles of Gainesville.
