Death
Reece Daniel Furr, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Carolinas Health System-Northeast. A celebration of Reece’s life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Friendship United Methodist Church, 4695 Mt. Pleasant Road South, Concord, where he was a life-long member. The Rev. Roger Armistead will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. A Cabarrus County native, Reece was born August, 17, 1935, to Henry Jacob Furr and Annie Myrtle Rowland Furr. In additional to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Emma F. Fink, and two brothers, Woodley Furr and Floyd Ray Furr. For 45 years, Reece owned and operated Furr’s Drywall Inc. A hard worker, he enjoyed all aspects of carpentry work and delighted in gardening and fishing. NASCAR races and Atlanta Braves baseball games were his favorite spectator sports, and he was a fan for life. Always willing to help others, he is irreplaceable and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Smith Furr of the home; two daughters, Deborah Furr of Mt. Pleasant, and Judy Furr of Cleveland, N.C.; a son, Jack Furr of Albemarle; a granddaughter, Holly Vazquez (Eddie), and a grandson, Bryan Furr; two sisters, Jewel Maxwell of Concord, and Lena Mae Martin (Marshall) of Albemarle; three brothers, Ralph Furr and Henry "Bub" J. Furr, Jr. (Doris) of Concord, and Boyd Lee Furr (Peggy) of Oakboro; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be directed to Friendship United Methodist Men, P.O. Box 1382, Mt.
