Death
CONCORD Floyd "Ray" Furr, 81, of Concord, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends Friday, May 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, 4695 Mt. Pleasant Rd. S., Concord, NC 28025. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation with the Rev. Roger Armistead officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. A Cabarrus County native, Ray was the eighth of 10 children born to Henry Jacob and Annie Myrtle Rowland Furr. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy Barbee Furr; sister, Emma Fink; infant brother, Clyde Furr; brother, Woodley Furr; grandson, Grayson Philip Furr; and great-grandson, Baxter Floyd Newton. Ray was a veteran of the United States Air Force proudly serving his country from 1952 to 1956. Ray was a carpenter and general contractor by trade and could easily out-work those half his age. Ray enjoyed gardening and fishing at the Outer Banks, but mostly spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who equally cherished their time with Paw-Paw. Ray was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Concord, where he was instrumental in ensuring the success of the annual ham and chicken dinners. Ray is survived by three sons, Terry Ray Furr, of Mt. Pleasant, Philip Jacob Furr and wife, Lori Cauthen Furr, of Mt. Pleasant and Stephen Leray Furr of Mississippi; one daughter, Beverly Renee Furr Kubacki and husband, Kevin Kubacki, of Albemarle; brothers, Ralph Furr, of Concord, Henry "Bub" Furr, Jr. (Doris) of Concord, Reece Daniel Furr (Shirley) of Mount Pleasant, and twin, Boyd Lee Furr (Peggy), of Oakboro; sisters, Jewell Maxwell of Concord and Lena Martin (Marshall) of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Greg Furr (Shelby) of Concord, Amber Newton (Shane) of Mt. Pleasant, Kaitlyn Kubacki of Albemarle, Rylee, Jacob, Caden and Mason Furr all of Mt. Pleasant; and four great-grandchildren, Skylar and Brylie Newton of Mount Pleasant, and Tye and Avery Furr of Concord. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Ray's memory be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1382, Mt.
