Death
CONCORD - Mr. Nathaniel Gerald Ferguson, 80, died Aug. 17, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center. Gerald was born May 12, 1926, in Mecklenburg County, the son of the late Isaac Otto and Cora Pauline Furr Ferguson. He was a retired barber at Whitley's Barber Shop in Concord. Prior to his career as a barber, he worked as a knitter at Hugh Gray Hosiery in Concord. He also served our country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Gerald was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and giving home to the purple martin. He was an avid gardener and winemaker. Gerald was a member of St. John's Grange where his family was Grange Family of the Year in 1994. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gerald and resurrection through Christ will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at Historic St. John's Lutheran Church where he was an active member. The service will be officiated by Dr. Mark Ericson and the Reverend Ted Goins, Sr., emeritus pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Gerald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Ritchie Ferguson. He is also survived by his daughter, Dianne Ferguson McCord and her husband, David, of Mount Pleasant; and son, David Ferguson and his wife, Angela, of Concord; grandson, Paul Ferguson of Concord; and granddaughter Lauren Ferguson of Wilmington. Gerald is also survived by his sister, Virginia Gibson of Chesapeake, Va., and his brothers, Lowell Ferguson, Sr., of Mount Pleasant; Ike Ferguson and Joe Ferguson of Stanfield; and Lane Ferguson of Mountain Rest, S.C. He was preceded in death by his brother, Boyd. Memorials may be made in remembrance of Gerald to the Heritage Building Fund of St. John's Church, 100 St. John's Church Road, Concord.
