TAYLORSVILLE — Frances Gertrude Furr Cooke, 75, Route 2, mother of Davis L Cooke, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Aug 17, 1994) at Catawba Memorial Hospital, Hickory. She had been in declining health for six months and seriously ill for one week. Born Nov. 2, 1918, in Salisbury, Mrs Cooke, a daughter of the late Judge T.G and Emma Pitts Furr, was a 1935 graduate of Boyden High School. She received her bachelor of science in secretarial administration from Women's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, in 1939. A high school business teacher in the Alexander County school system from 1940-1974, she worked for Frank Buck Co., Salisbury, for three years during World War II. Mrs. Cooke was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Wit and Wisdom Book Club, Taylorsville, the Retired Teachers Association, and First Presbyterian Church, Taylorsville. Survivors, in addition to her son, include husband Willis D. Cooke, whom she married June 19, 1941; and sister Carolyn P.Furr, Salisbury. Services: Graveside, 2 p.m.Saturday, Taylorsville City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Carl Dumford and the Rev. Dianne Corlett. Visitation: The body will remain at the family home in Ellendale until the service. Adams Funeral Home, Taylorsville, is in charge of arrangements.
