Death

Mr. Darryl Lyle Whisonant, 82, of Rock Hill, SC, died Tuesday February 1, 2022 at home. There will be a Memorial Service from 3 to 5 pm on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Bass Funeral Home, located at 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, S.C. Born in 1939, in Rock Hill S.C., to the late David Lyle Whisonant and Virginia Workman Whisonant, Mr. Whisonant was the longtime owner of Veterans Cab Company in Rock Hill, S.C., which his father Lyle founded in 1946, and is still family-owned and operated today. Like his father before him, Mr. Whisonant was a proud Veteran and served his country honorably in the United States Army. Darryl loved spending time at the beach and watching his favorite baseball team play, the Atlanta Braves. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Whisonant is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Furr Whisonant of Rock Hill, SC, and three sons, Jason Darryl Whisonant and his wife Shana Morton of Rock Hill, Chad Stuart Whisonant and wife Sarah Crowell Whisonant of Fort Mill, Daniel Eric Whisonant of Rock Hill, and two daughters, Heather Susan Whisonant of Rock Hill, and Hayley Nichole Whisonant and fiance' Bobby Laster of Rock Hill. Mr. Whisonant is also survived by his five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, along with his brother John “Steve” Whisonant and three sisters, Rena Neely, Pamela Baker, and Barbara Johnson of Rock Hill. Mr. Whisonant was preceded in death by his brother David Whisonant and his sisters Jean Reynolds and Cassie Vinson. Darryl was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
