Death

Robert Lincoln Rogers, 90, of Wendover Road, Statesville, NC, died on Saturday January 28, 2006, at Iredell Memorial Hospital following a period of illness. Born on February 12, 1915, in Albemarle, NC, he was the son of the late Benjamin Marshall Rogers and Emma Furr Rogers. In 1936 Mr. Rogers graduated top of his class from the NC State University School of Textiles. He held several managerial positions in textile manufacturing and research before moving to Statesville to become the General Manager of Uniglass Industries, a subsidiary of United Merchants and Manufacturers. He retired in 1984. Mr. Rogers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Statesville and served on the Board of Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County. He was a golfer, a gardener and an avid exercise enthusiast, exercising daily at the Statesville YMCA until a few months ago. In 1938 he married Marguerite Witherspoon Rogers who passed away in December 2005. He was also preceded in death by twin sons, a sister and three brothers. Survivors include a brother, John P. Rogers, a son, Benjamin Marshall Rogers and Wife, Sallie Rogers; a daughter, Camilla Rogers Cothren and husband, William Alfred Cothren: grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Rogers, Sarah Rogers Griffin and husband, Jason Griffin, Austin Marshall Rogers, Maggie Ann Rogers, Andrew Ian Cothren and Caroline Ainsleigh Cothren; and one great grandchild, Karlie Belle Griffin. Surviving nieces and nephews include Barbara Rogers Padgett, Trudy Rogers Evans, Lyna Jewell Rogers, Paula Rogers Shedd, Debbie Rogers Edwards, Cheryl Rogers Efird, Arthur H. Rogers Jr., Marshall C. Rogers, Thomas E. Brown, Nancy Witherspoon Smith and Walter M. Witherspoon. The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 31, 2006, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. The body may also be viewed at the funeral home until 1:00 PM on Wednesday. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2006,at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Statesville, Dr. Jeffrey Porter presiding. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at 2 PM, for both Mr. Rogers and his wife, Marguerite, at Oakboro Cemetery, Oakbobo NC, with the Reverend Kenneth Martin Presiding.
