(15 Sep 1876 - 15 Jul 1954)
Note: Obituary of James Adam Helms from Watson Primitive Baptist Church Records.
James Adam Helms
Whereas, our beloved brother, James Adam Helms, has fallen asleep in Jesus, and now in body is resting from all his sufferings, sorrow, and labors of this world. Not withstanding that his soul and spirit has returned to Him who gave it, we deeply regret the parting of this good man. Be it
Resolved, That we, the membership of Watson Church, humbly bow to be submissive to an all-wise, heavenly Father in the death of a dear brother. He was born Sept. 15, 1976; passed away July 15, 1954; making his natural life on earth seventy-seven years, and ten months. Brother Helms was married to Miss Rettie Hargett on Dec. 16, 1937, who is left to mourn his passing. He united with Watson Primitive Baptist Church November 21, 1936. He was truly a devoted member; even after the amputation of one leg he would go to church whenever possible. He loved the Old Baptist doctrine of salvation by the grace of God. He firmly believed in the resurrection of the body.
The funeral services were held at Watson Church, by Elder C. M. Mills and Elder E. H. Simpson. Many relatives and friends paid their last respects to this good man.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to his wife, along with our heart-felt sympathy; a copy to THE PRIMITIVE BAPTIST for publication, and a copy placed upon the Church Record.
Done by the order of Watson Church (torn) in conference. Elder C. M. Mills, Mod. (C. M. Mills of Charlotte, North Carolina, Watson Church pastor)
