Death
Eva Mae Poplin Leonard, age 93, of Canton Heights Road, Albemarle, passed away, April 14, 2012 at her home. Although there will be no formal visitation, family and friends are welcome to come by the funeral home to view and pay their respects anytime after 2:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2012. The graveside service will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:00 am, at Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle. Rev. John Black will officiate. Born September 30, 1918 in Stanly County, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Henry Poplin and the late Margie Mae Furr Poplin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edward “Smokie” Leonard and 4 brothers, W.C. “Dub”, Vermon, Elder Homer, and Lois Poplin. She is survived by her brother, J.D. “Dixie” Poplin and wife Mary Linda of Norwood; 2 sisters, Mildred Speight of Albemarle and Helen C. Swaringen and husband Bob of Norwood; two sisters in law, Peggy Poplin of Concord and Lucille Poplin of Albemarle. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. She attended Richfield Schools and was retired from Wiscassett Mills after 41 years of service as a spinner. She was a member of Second Street Presbyterian Church in Albemarle for 50 years. Memorials may be made to Second Street Presbyterian Church, 325 N. Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or the charity of one’s choice. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the family.
