Death
Eugene “Gene” Furr, 88 of Lexington went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Hinkle Hospice House following a brief illness. Gene was born September 2, 1929 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late Luther Monroe and Minnie Harwood Furr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Tucker Furr in 1999. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Korea. He was employed with Arrowood Mills in Concord prior to his retirement. Gene was a member of Spruce Street Independent Baptist Church in Lexington. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his bounty with friend and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Cold Water Independent Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis from 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. Tuesday prior to the graveside service. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost fifteen years; Sue Ellen Nantz Furr of the home, one daughter, Yvonne “Lester” Shoulders of Mt. Pleasant, four stepchildren; Linda Brannock, Jerry (Joycie) Phillips, Judy (Wes) Koontz and Tim Phillips. He is also survived by three sisters; Edith Cooper of Asheville, Carol Cooper of Concord and Virginia Gannaway of Locust, grandchildren; Natalie (Steven) Gilmore, Asa (Tara) Shoulders, great-grandchildren; Eli Gilmore, Gabriel Gilmore, Isabelle Gilmore, Abram Gilmore, Riley Peyton and Asa Easton on the way. He is also survived by four step-grandchildren; Angel (Alan) Burger, Amy Collins, Wesley (Allison) Koontz, Landon (Julie) Koontz and three step-grandchildren; Brandon Burger, Emily Burger and Jensen Koontz. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Davidson County, 202 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.Endnotes
