Death
ALBEMARLE — Lentz Monroe Almond, 76, Albemarle, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at University Hospital, Charlotte.Born Jan. 5, 1925, in Stanly County, Mr. Almond was a son of the late Travis Monroe “T.M.” Almond and Rosanna Furr Almond. He was a graduate of Millingport High School and class valedictorian.
During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Navy. He retired as a service manager from Suburban Propane.
A former member of Millingport Lion’s Club, he was a former president of PTOat Millington Elementary School and a board member at North Stanly High School. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, the SalemAdult Men’s Sunday School class and a former lay leader.
Survivors include wife Gladys Ruth Hall Almond; son Gary Travis Almond, Pinnacle; daughter Beverly Almond Johnson, Albemarle; brothers Travis J. Almond, Albemarle, and Aubrey P. Almond, Norwood; half sister Ethel Lee Morgan, Stanfield; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m.Wednesday, Salem United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Denton. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by Albemarle-Stanly County DAV.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, HartsellFuneral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on N.C. Hwy. 73.
