Notes
Death
Rachel Furr Liles went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 15th, 2019. She was born August 28, 1926 in Stanly County, NC to John Henry and Sarah Cleonia Burris Furr. Rachel graduated from Ridgecrest High School in 1944 and continued her education at Evans Business School. She began her career in the office of Kerr Bleachery in Concord, NC and later at Cannon/Fieldcrest/Pillowtex in Concord and Kannapolis, NC, retiring in 1994. She married her lifetime love, J. V. Liles, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1989. Her years alone were filled initially by work, caring for the property she and J. V. purchased early in their marriage, caring for her mother in illness, becoming a guardian for her aunt, and supporting her church, Keller United Church of Christ. Rachel especially enjoyed lunches with her sisters and friends and time spent with her loving daughter. She was an avid reader of the Concord Tribune, her bible and study literature, along with many magazines to which she subscribed. Later in life, after Rachel lost her vision to Macular Degeneration, she enjoyed listening to books on tape and tuning in to BBN radio. Rachel is preceded in death by her husband, J. V., parents and brothers, Floyd Monroe Furr, Joseph Adam Furr, Leonard Ramson Furr, Daniel Timothy Furr and John Paulie Furr and sister Beatrice Mae Furr. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Rosetta Liles West (Edward) and sisters Trullie Belle Furr Smith of Albemarle, Hazel Marie Furr Little of Locust and Sarah Jane Furr Little of Albemarle; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She is also survived by her close friend Ann Nicholson Bowen of Elm City, and her children Nick Bowen and Louann Bowen Lester (Michael) of Elm City and her grandchildren Grace Lester Torres (Pedro) of Elm City and Bowen Lester of Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 20th, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Jack Younts. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Liles family.Endnotes
