Death
Dewey Anderson "Buck" Furr, Sr. 88, of Hollandale, MS passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona, MS. Visitation and funeral services will be held at 10:00AM and 11:00AM respectively on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Leland Presbyterian Church in Leland, MS. Dewey was born February, 17, 1934 in Delta City, MS to Dewey Hobson and Mellye Pierce Furr. He graduated valedictorian of Catchings High School in 1951 and from Draughon Business School in 1953. Dewey worked for /owned and operated the Western Auto in Hollandale, MS for over 50 years. He was a past Master Mason of Thomas Gaddis Masonic Lodge in Hollandale, MS and a member there for 60 years. He was a volunteer fireman, Assistant Fire Chief, and Fire Chief for the City of Hollandale spanning over 30 years and held the position of Commissioner of East Washington County Fire District after retirement until his death. Dewey was a member of the Leland Presbyterian Church and was a past member and Elder of the Hollandale Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed life and his family and friends immensely. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Hobson and Mellye Pierce Furr, his brother, Richard A. Furr, his two sisters, Etta Westbrook and Erlene Clark, and two sons-in-law, Clannis H. Braswell and William R. "Rickey" Potter. Dewey is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cora Twiner Furr; four children, Nancy Christine Braswell of Coila, MS, Julia Potter of Belzoni, MS, Dewey Anderson "Buck" Furr, Jr. of Coila, MS, and Richard Furr and wife Tina of Vicksburg, MS; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Theological Educational Fund at Leland Presbyterian Church in Leland, MS or to the Thomas Gaddis Masonic Lodge in Hollandale, MS.Endnotes
