Death
Services were held for Capt. Willie Eugene Furr Jr., 57, Dec. 29 at the Colonial Funeral Home. Capt. Furr died Dec. 27. Bro. Willie Martin and Bro. Ken Campbell officiated. Interment was in Lott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mason Furr Jr., Sherman Pounds, Lanse Holmes, Wayne Nichols, Terry Robertson and Jim Dunaway. Capt. Furr was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Tylertown to Willie Eugene Furr Sr. and Mamie Popwell Furr. He lived in Columbia for nine years and worked as a ship captain for Sealand Service Inc. and the Merchant Marines. He was also a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Sts. John Masonic Lodge in New Orleans, a member of Masters Mates and Pilots Union. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Furr of Columbia; daughters Pamela Sokoll of Stavanger, Norway, Carolyn La Cava of Chalmette, La., and Beverly Phillips of Hammond, La.; a son Carl Travis Furr of St. Augustine, Fla; two brothers, Mason Furr of El Paso, Texas and William Furr of Vancleave; and six grandchildren.Columbian-Progress, Columbia, Mississippi, January 4, 1992
