Death
Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Olivia Furr, 84, were held at two o'clock Sunday, January 17, from the Shiloh Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Porter Buckley, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Thomas Hall, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. Interment was in Shiloh cemetery under direction of Hartman’s Funeral Home of Tylertown. Pallbearers were Wesley Merritt, Ray Merritt, Tom Hartfield, John Hartfield, Joe Holmes and Jim Hemphill. Mrs. Furr died January 15 in a Hattiesburg hospital after an illness. Mrs. Furr was born September 20, 1869, in Copiah County, the daughter of George W. and Emma Bailey Thomas. Since early life she had resided at Shiloh. Her husband, H. M. Furr, preceded his wife in death on September 5, 1934. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and was active in church work until her health failed. Mrs. Furr had made many friends during her lifetime who mourn her passing. She had hade her home with her children after her husband passed away. Surviving are three sons, Walter Furr of Bogalusa, G. W. Furr of Hattiesburg and Willie Furr of New Orleans; five daughters, Mrs. MaeNielson of Warreck, Mont., Mrs. Mattie Stanley of Freeport, Fla., Mrs. Mertie Hartfield of Hattiesburg, Mrs. Emma DeAngelo of Natchez and Mrs. Cola Slocum of Foxworth; one sister, Mrs. Julia Askew of Columbia; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.Endnotes
