Death
Aleene Noel Furr Smith, 66, of 404 E. Eighth St., Oakboro, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at 2:15 p.m. in Stanly Memorial Hospital. Her funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Biggers will officiate and burial will be in the Oakboro Cemetery. Born Jan. 25, 1930, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of Bruce Cyrus and Jennie Crayton Furr. She was a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury and was a retired teacher with the Mecklenburg County School System at Oakhurst Elementary School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Oakboro. She is survived by her husband, Flave Durant Smith of the home; a daughter, Renita S. Peeler of Oakboro; and two brothers, Melvin G. Furr of Lancaster, S.C., and Clegg M. Furr of Monroe. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is in charge.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, December 22, 1996
