Anne LARDNER

Ann Lardner was born in October 1838 in Ramsden, Oxfordshire, England, to William and Elizabeth Souch Lardner, both aged 27. Apparently her life was not easy. The 1851 census reports her (along with other family members) as an "inmate" of the Witney Union Workhouse. In 1861, she was unwed, working and living, with two children, in the residence of a James Buckingham, a stone mason. A third child, Christopher, was born in 1861. When she died September 30, 1867, she was again an inmate of the workhouse.

Birth

The precise date and place come from the GRO birth certificate.

Two possibilities appear in the index: One born in Witney and one born in Chipping Norton.

1851 census says age 14, suggesting a date range of Mar 1836 to Mar 1837
1861 census says age 22, suggesting a date range of Mar 1838 to Mar 1839

Death record gives age 29, suggesting a date range of Oct 1837 to Oct 1838

Residence

The census record describes James Buckingham as "head" of household and Ann Lardner as "servant". Both are listed as unmarried. Her two children are also resident. Both of them, and a third to come later, have names identical to James's siblings.

Burial

The image suggests burial in 1866. However, it can be observed that the entries are entered in date order. The one at the top of the page is in 1866, but by the time one gets to Ann Lardner's entry at the bottom of the page, the year has rolled over to 1867.
