Individual Details
Benoni DELANO
(30 Oct 1667 - 5 Apr 1738)
He played a part in a youthful rebellion. According to Mayflower Descendants, Alden, p 148, “the young men” of Duxbury petitioned the town meeting of Feb 1709/10 as a result of being excluded from the first division of land. They demanded a half share in the first division or a whole share in the second. The two agreed to include them in the second division, but Benoni was unsatisfied. He and Abram Samson, Jr, each demanded forty acres in the first division. It’s unclear how this claim was resolved.
He died at the age of 71 on 5 April 1738 and is buried in the South Duxbury Cemetery. He was then called “Dr Benoni”. Because drugs were found in his inventory, it’s possible that he acted as a physician. (Mayflower Descendants, Alden, p 148)

Notes
Birth
Mayflower Descendants, Alden, p 52 points out that this is also the court date where Thomas and Rebecca were accused of fornication. This seems like an unlikely coincidence.Marriage
Three children of John Drew and Hannah Churchill--Elizabeth, John and Samuel--married three children of Dr Thomas Delano and Rebecca Alden--Benoni, Sarah, and Ruth, respectively.Endnotes
