Notes
Military
Mary Frances NEIDERHISER Allen's handwritten note indicates that he was "mustered in 1861, Gettysburg [and] was in Fredericksburg, ....9 mo service... [and] mustered out in 1865."Residence
Don Neiderhiser records: "[W]hen Samuel came home from the war he stayed at his home place next to the Neiderhiser Cemetery..."Burial
From pagenweb.org/~somerset/cemetery/jf/neiderhiser.htm:"Children of Samuel & H. NEIDERHISER, JACOB (NIEDERHISER) Died Nov. 16, 1891 - Aged 3 yrs 10 mo 20 days
Infant (NIEDERHISER), Died May 9, 1888
EDWARD (NIEDERHISER) Died Ap. 10, 1889 - Aged 1 yr 11 mo 7 days
SAMUEL NIEDERHISER, Died July 8, 1898 - Aged 55 yrs 8 mo 16 days
SAVAGE (stone set into ground, no other markings)
One stone with inscription too weathered to read.
22 native stone markers"
Donald Neiderhiser's records agree with the above except he omits "SAVAGE" and adds "There is a David Neiderhiser (grave marker) at the top right side (of the cemetery) it may be Jacob or Samuel's son. 'David 1/16/18?4 age 2 yrs. 14 days..."
Compiler of this tree and Bruce Rosenberger (a Neiderhiser descendant) accompanied Donald to the Neiderhiser Cemetery 25 Aug 2012. We dispute his data at two points: 1) on the base of Samuel's monument, the notation re Jacob clearly reads "Nov 16, 1891 age 9 yrs 10 mo. 20 days" and 2) the stone he identifies as "David Neiderhiser" is nearly illegible; the first name is "David" but the remainder of the data cannot be verified. We question his assumption that it is Jacob or Samuel's son.
Donald Neiderhiser indicates that "Samuel Neiderhiser's stone was bought by the state because he was a volunteer in the Civil War. On our 25 Aug 2012 visit, the grave was decorated by 2 U.S. flags, one bearing the insignia "G.A.R."
